Federer commits to charity more than other celebrities, says Foundation CEO
In an interview to CNN, Janine Händel, the CEO of the Roger Federer Foundation, praised the 37-year-old's commitment in charity. 'People are quite surprised to hear that Roger is partecipating in every and each board meeting, that he is really travelling to Africa regularly', said Händel. 'And then there is this positive surprise that he takes actions, that he takes decisions, that he is always accessible for me, for the team whenever we need him and that's much more than other celebrities are doing for their own Foundations.'
Federer is very well-known over the world on the tennis tour, but when he comes to Africa he is just one more person. And for them, that's an intriguing and exciting challenge too. 'That's really the most interesting part of my work', Händel said. 'I love to be on these different stages, on these different worlds but moreover it's something which concerns me because it really shows reality on the ground, that they are not connected to this digital world we are so used to live in, and we are so used to get access to all these disadvantages we can have, and part of the world is just cut off and there is a lot of concerns and the potential we really have to come in and improve the situation.'
Federer is currently training in Dubai and he will be back to compete in Perth at the Hopman Cup.
