Rafael Nadal joins forces with former FC Real Madrid coach in new project

According to Reporter.mx, Rafael Nadal is planning to invest in a new resort in Tulum with the former FC Real Madrid coach Julen Lopetegui, through a company that makes investments in Cozumel. Nadal and Lopetegui are owners of the Secrets Aura Cozumel hotel and also the tennis player's father Sebastian features among the members.

Julen Lopetegui and Rafa Nadal bought the building more than one decade ago, and at a first stage they sold it to Wyndham, but then they switched it to AMResorts, which also works in Spain.

Julen Lopetegui made his appearance at the Secrets Aura Cozumel public in February 2016 when he took a photo with Nadal, who was described by the football personality as the best Spanish sportsman of all time. Lopetegui was also involved in other projects with Leo Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo: with the FC Barcelona star for the Majestic hotels and with CR7 for Pestana hotel.

Nadal brought a 1,139-room place in the Mexican Caribbean making it the first sports centre of the 17-time Grand Slam winner outside Spain.

Rafael Nadal and Jose Olazabal competed in a charity golf event named after them near Mallorca, Spain, on Saturday, to raise money for the families of the 11 victims affected by the floods of October and all the damages that the rain caused. 'The ultimate goal of this initiative is to raise money for the people who lost so much in that tragic day', explained Nadal. 'You cannot recover the most important things, the lives you lost. Disgraces are like this, it's difficult to speak about them, and in our case that touched us very closely. The area affected is where my mother's family lives, so I was totally close with them. We will try helping how we can.'

For Nadal, the key thing of this event was to raise money, and he thought golf was a great weapon to do it: 'I do not get crazy about golf, I am a sports fan in general, football, tennis, basketball, golf... Sport is a unique thing. What you see is what it is.'
