Former player reveals details on strange Federer-Djokovic relationship

Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic share good words about each other, but their cordiality still has some mysterious overtones, Over the years, Novak's father, Srdjan has criticized the Swiss player several times while Djokovic's former coach and former world no. 1, Boris Becker said there is a false friendship between the two legends.

Now, commenting the match between Djokovic and Karen Khachanov on Sky Sport at the Mubadala World Tennis Championship in Abu Dhabi on Friday, the former world no. 26 Claudio Mezzadri, who served as the captain of Switzerland's Davis Cup team in 1999, when the 37-year-old Basel native made his debut, said: 'Federer has a particular relationship with Djokovic, he can't completely understand him. When he tried to talk with him, apart from the usual pep talk, he hasn't understood his attitude. Djokovic told him something and sometimes did the opposite. In Chicago, during the Laver Cup, he said he felt tired and that he preferred to play as late as possible. Then he wanted to go on the court as soon as possible.  Also in doubles, they agreed to play together and... djokovic insisted on playing earlier. Federer gets along with him quite well but he can't completely understand him.'

Apart from Djokovic, Rafael Nadal has also played the Laver Cup. Nadal represented Team Europe in the first edition of the event in 2017, and teamed up with Federer in a doubles match. Nadal has committed to playing the Laver Cup for the third edition of the event, to be held in Geneva, Switzerland in 2019.
