Marseille Open Tournament Director explains Roger Federer's power on Tour
Roger Federer and the other tennis legends are bringing tennis to the next level in terms of popularity and interest. In 2017 4.7 million people attended the 64 tournaments scheduled on the ATP Calendar, which is the highest number ever in a single year. In an interview to WeLoveTennis.fr, the Marseille Open Tournament Director Jean-Francois Caujolle commented on Federer's power to attract fans and endorsements. 'On this subject, there are two possible analyzes. Roger Federer, he deregulated the tennis? Or did he bring him where he is today? It's a bit like Tiger Woods in golf. That his agent Tony Godsick seized the system to optimize it, after all, it's his job.'
Did he not put the system at risk by focusing on his interests? 'I will say yes, but at the same time, we can not remove the idea in the minds of people that they are the ones who raise the crowds', said Caujolle. 'When Roger Federer is here [interview was conducted Friday, November 2 at Rolex Paris Masters, ed], the earth revolves around him.'
For the moment, it is the total blur concerning the new Davis Cup. What's going to happen? 'I think it's once again communication that will make things happen. The big mistake of the international federation was finally to open the door to Kosmos. Now, the leaders are overwhelmed.'
Davis Cup finals will take place over one week from 18 to 24 November 2019, featuring 18 teams. Rafael Nadal, Dominic Thiem and Marin Cilic committed.
