Nick Kyrgios not jealous of Alex de Minaur's rise and success
Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios says he is happy to see fellow compatriot Alex de Minaur doing well on the ATP Tour.
De Minaur, 19, drew lots of attention to his name in 2018 for all the good reasons.
The 19-year-old made a huge rankings jump in 2018 as he started the season ranked at No. 208 in the world but finished the campaign ranked at No. 31.
De Minaur fell just short of winning his maiden ATP title this past season as he ended runner-up at the Sydney International and the Citi Open in Washington.
The promising Australian also fell just short of winning it all at the NextGen ATP Finals event as he ended runner-up in the final to Greek rising star Stefanos Tsitsipas.
Kyrgios, now ranked at No. 35 in the world, was the top-ranked Australian player for the good part of the 2018 season.
"It's always great seeing other Aussies do well. I am not the jealous or envious type - if others have the success I am happy for them," Kyrgios said, per the AAP.
"Seeing what Alex has been doing, he is now on the big stage. I know he is excited about the Aussie summer and I am sure he will do very well."
Both Kyrgios and de Minaur are set to open their 2019 campaigns at the Brisbane International.
Kyrgios won it all in Brisbane a year ago, while de Minaur reached the semi-final.
