Rafa Nadal Foundation planning to celebrate new charity events in future
The Rafa Nadal Foundation wants to achieve new goals in the future. The world No. 2's charitable activity held the Match for Africa in 2010 involving Nadal and Roger Federer, while in 2015 they hosted a gala dinner in Paris. Speaking to Tennis World USA on the goals for the upcoming years, Maria Francisca Perelló, Director of Strategy and Relations with Institutions, said: "We are planning to celebrate new charity events in the future, although we have not defined the setups. The different events carried out so far have been important experiences that allowed raising funds for the projects, such as the exhibition match between Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, which took place in Madrid in 2010, or the gala dinner that we celebrated in Paris in 2015, among others."
The Nadal Foundation runs two centres, in Spain and India. Where are the biggest challenges? "Our centre of reference is the Rafa Nadal Foundation Centre, located in Mallorca (Spain), where we assist around 200 kids in risk of exclusion every year. We also have a school in Anantapur, India, where we work to promote equality and social integration. At the same time, the project More than Tennis addressed to young persons with intellectual disability, is present in 19 schools located in different places in Spain. Lastly, through the program Study and Play, we offer scholarships to combine studies and sports practice in American universities. Broadly speaking, we face two main challenges: to continue supporting these children and youngsters and to reach more beneficiaries at the same time, and, on the other hand, to adapt to a changing world and therefore to changing needs. After eight years of intense work and constant evolution, we are satisfied with the road travelled and the work is done so far, with a figure that counts around 5000 children and youngsters. Our desire is to keep growing as an organization, but always constant in our focus on personalized attention, always adapted to the different needs and disadvantages."
