Fabio Fognini: 'John McEnroe was a little crazy like me'
In an interview to Globo Esporte the world No. 13 Fabio Fognini made a comparison between him and John McEnroe. The Italian tennis player believes there are some similarities in terms of character. 'John McEnroe, a little crazy like me (laughter). Crazy, but he was the world No. 1, I was very little when he played but I saw some matches. And I agree with him. When we meet each other, we speak. The difference is that he has won a lot, and I did not', Fognini admitted.
On his feelings when playing tennis, the Italian added: 'When you win, you are always happy. Everyone has their own emotions; in the last two years, I changed a bit on this aspect. But I am always myself, in the bad and good ways. I do not hide on a court.'
Next year Fognini will come back to the Rio Open on clay: 'I keep a good memory from 2015 beating Rafa (Nadal) in the semifinals. It was my first win over him and on clay, it's even tougher. I always come here with a lot of dreams.'
Fognini also indicated this year's Davis Cup tie between Japan and Italy as one of the highlights of his season: 'It was very hard to win three points, it was not the first time I won it. I always like to play for my country, it's different than play a tournament for myself.'
