Tommy Haas won't be surprised if Andy Murray returns to best form in 2019
Former world No. 2 Tommy Haas has urged the tennis world not to write off Andy Murray as the Scot could return to his old form in 2019.
Murray played his last tournament of 2017 at Wimbledon before he underwent hip surgery in 2018 January.
The former world No. 1 returned to competitive action in June at the Queen's Club and played five more tournaments before he called it a 2018 season after the Shenzhen Open.
Murray, 31, managed to get some hard-fought hard wins under his belt in 2018 and, most importantly, to avoid further hip issues.
Haas, who dealt with a hip issue during his career, exclusively told Metro UK that he was surprised to see Murray return to action six months after the surgery.
Murray, a two-time Brisbane champion, is due to open his 2019 campaign at the Brisbane International.
The 31-year-old will be hoping to put on yet another strong Brisbane campaign and prepare well for the Australian Open.
"It looks like he (Murray) is putting in the hard yards to get ready for the Australian Open – I wouldn't be surprised by next summer if he's playing some of his best tennis again," Haas exclusively told Metro UK.
Murray was carefully selecting which tournaments would he play this year after returning from the surgery.
"Tennis is obviously a thing where you need to get confidence by winning matches. You can do that just by playing. He (Murray) is going to have a good schedule again, he's, you know, a Grand Slam champion so he knows what he's doing," Haas added.
