French Open to give amazing welcome to Roger Federer, says Guy Forget

In an interview to L'Equipe, the French Open Tournament Director Guy Forget reacted to Roger Federer announcing his comeback in the Grand Slam that takes place from 26 May to 9 June 2019. Federer revealed this news speaking to the French reporters following his loss to Stefanos Tsitsipas at the Australian Open on Sunday. 'I learned it during his post match press conference, like all the others', said Forget. 'I do not think he had said it to anybody, however. We will be happy to share this information: we will see Roger in Paris again! The French crowd always gives him an amazing welcome. All the people will be impatient, excited by this idea. I am happy for the tournament and for them.'

Federer last played at the French Open in 2015 losing to his compatriot Stan Wawrinka in a straight-set opening round match. Then in 2016, he withdrew due to a back injury while in 2017 and 2018 he did not play in order to prepare at his best for grass. Does Federer's appearance make something change in handling the event? 'Not at all. When you sell tickets, it goes very, very quickly. Our frustration, for years, at the French Open, was to say no to thousands of fans and media. As a federation, it's terrible. Now it will be great for people to buy tickets to watch Roger. I think he is in right in playing. I think last year he did not play enough and so this is the right decision.'
