Halle Event Unlikely to be Affected by Problems at Gerry Weber

Tennis - The ATP event in Halle is not likely to be moved or affected by the problems at Gerry Weber, which has filed an application for insolvency. According to Tennisnet, Gerry Weber and its core brands Gerry Weber, Hallhuber, Samoon and Typhoon have been having poor sales figures and losses for some time now with the online business being one of the major reasons for its problems.

Sascha Detlefsen, spokesman for Gerry Weber Management & Event OHG has said that there are not likely to be any problems for the 2019 event but for 2020, there may be a new title sponsor. "Due to the situation in the fashion group, discussions have been going on for some time with potential buyers. For 2020, there will probably be a new title sponsor" also adding that a new title sponsor could be found for the 2019 event as well.

According to Halle Kreisblatt, the agreement between the tournament and Gerry Weber AG provides for an annual payment of 4.3 million euros. However, the stadium company has waived a seven-figure amount since 2015 but with the new legal problems faced by Gerry Weber, the agreement may no longer be binding on the company.

The tournament has been held n Halle since 1993 as an ATP level event. In 2018, Borna Coric won the title over Swiss legend Roger Federer, who won the event a historic nine times.
