Roger Rasheed: Unseeded Nick Kyrgios could be big threat at Melbourne Park
Roger Rasheed has underlined that Nick Kyrgios leaving the top-50 club isn't the end of the world for the talented Australian star.
Kyrgios, ranked at No. 35 in the world, is set to leave the top-50 when the ATP rankings get updated next week after failing to defend his Brisbane International title.
The Australian lost to French Jeremy Chardy in the Brisbane round-of-16.
Kyrgios didn't appear to be particularly concerned after his loss to Chardy as he said he "couldn't care less" about dropping outside the top-50.
The 23-year-old could be handed a tough Australian Open draw as he won't be a seeded player at Melbourne Park this year.
"That's the nature of tennis. It's a 12 month cycle. [Kyrgios] had to defend 250 points, and he didn't do that," Rasheed told Big Sports Breakfast, as revealed on Sporting News.
"There'll be a dip in the rankings, but it's easy to pick them up again... but he needed to defend [in Brisbane] and get a seed, so he could play Novak or Roger in the first round [in Melbourne]."
Kyrgios has already won over each member of the Big Four Group and has proved capable of producing his best tennis when playing against the top guys.
"The seeded players would rather have Nick seeded. A night match at Melbourne Park against Nick is a dangerous prospect," Rasheed added.
"The rankings look after themselves once you get wins. He's not dictated by the number near his name at the moment."
