Serena Williams won't apologize for US Open actions, says Courier
In an interview to Sports Day Radio, the former world no. 1 Jim Courier said that there will be a lot of pressure on Serena Williams at this year's Australian Open after her controversial behavior in the 2018 US Open final. A few weeks ago, at the Mubadala World Tennis Championship in Abu Dhabi, journalists were asked not to ask Serena questions about that match. However, one reporter still asked her, and the 23-time Grand Slam winner said she had no time to speak about it. “It’s my view that I don’t think we’re going to be getting any apology from Serena,” said Courier.
About Bernard Tomic and Nick Kyrgios, two of the most-spoken Australian players, Courier added: “Tomic and Kyrgios shouldn’t get a coach [and support team] if they’re not ready to listen to the advice. They need to be professional all the time... But, it’s up to them to make the determination of if and when they go all in.”
Tomic and Kyrgios faced-off against each other at the Kooyong Classic in Melbourne on Wednesday. Tomic won the match, which had its moments of eccentricities. At the Australian Open, Kyrgios will play Milos Raonic in the first round, while Tomic will take on Marin Cilic.
