Winning ninth Wimbledon is my goal, says Roger Federer
During the 2019 Laver Cup presentation Roger Federer was asked about his goals for the 2019 season. He would have definitely loved to retain his Australian Open title but he lost to Stefanos Tsitsipas in the fourth round. However, Federer looks to the future with a good state of mind. "Clearly Wimbledon, but now also Dubai, Indian Wells and Miami", said the world No. 6. "I really would like to make a good season start, maybe that could launch the clay season and Wimbledon but I think Wimbledon yes, the US Open and after also the Laver Cup and the World Tour Finals at the end of the year. Beating his two main rivals Nadal and Djokovic keeps him motivated and he knows success over them means success on the biggest stages. I continue my career… I’m motivated, I feel good and I’m looking forward to the future."
About the Laver Cup, Federer added: "I am very happy that it takes place in Switzerland. It has never been an idea or desire for me. It's a big emotion that Geneva is the city. We had great times in Prague and Chicago and I believe that in Switzerland fans will know this event even better."
Federer will definitely feel excited to be at the Palexpo Arena again. 'The first two editions were really nice. You realized straight forward that it was not just an exhibition and that players were there just to win, which is normal. You feel the pressure when you play for Bjorn Borg, Novak Djokovic or Rafael Nadal. The Geneva crowd will realize it soon."
