Great athletes like Serena Williams aren't immune to viral illness -Courier

In an interview to Tennis Channel the expert Chanda Rubin commented on Serena Williams's retirement during her third round match against Garbine Muguruza in Indian Wells. Rubin said Serena started on a high note, then her level dropped down. "She continued with the unbelievable intensity to form that she had in the Azarenka match", said Rubin. "She moved well, just hitting bombs from the grounds, serving beautifully but Muguruza got a little more aggressive, was able to turn the tables finally getting on the board and we thought ok, that's a match but things just turned very quickly with Muguruza taking the initiative and confidence and Serena has lost a lot of speed on her serve, wasn't moving quite as well, she hit a lot more unforced errors and in the beginning of the second Serena saw the trainer, she had the blood pressure taken off but there balls that Serena did not even move for. Patrick Mouratoglou was signalling for her to throw the towel."

Jon Wertheim added: "If you noticed her camp, they looked confused, sometimes your camp knows you are going out. Serena said that she is going to Miami and that's good news."

Jim Courier concluded: "She had troubles breathing so the viral illness is affecting even these amazing athletes, they are not immune to it."
