I would take Roger Federer to an island with me, says Simona Halep

Simona Halep is just one of the many players and people in the world who admires Roger Federer. But what the Romanian says about the Swiss, is always pretty interesting. Halep once said she only watches tennis matches on TV when Federer plays. She also took a photo with the 20-time Major winner at last year's Australian Open, although she admitted she was embarrassed while asking him. Journalist Ravi Uhba asked Halep which player she would bring with her on an island. 'Federer because I like how he's playing and his personality,' Halep said. 'So it’s going to be nice to spend some time with him to take from his experience, his thoughts. From the greatest, you can also learn something.'

Halep lost in the fourth round of the Australian Open to Serena Williams in an interesting three-set match. The Romanian also lost her place in the rankings and Naomi Osaka, who won the Australian Open title (beating Petra Kvitova in the final) became the world no. 1. Halep, then, reached the Qatar Open final in Doha in February but lost to Elise Mertens. She played the Dubai Duty-Free Tennis Championships next but lost in the quarter-finals to Belinda Bencic. The Swiss player went on to win the title, beating Kvitova in the final. Halep is currently ranked second in the world, behind Osaka who is still ranked the top-ranked player in the world.

In the men's event of the 2019 Dubai Duty-Free Tennis Championships, Federer won the title beating Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final. It was the Swiss' 100th ATP title and his eighth title in Dubai. He won his first title in Dubai in 2003 (beating Jiri Novak in the final).
