Prajnesh Gunneswaran aims to regularly play ATP and Grand Slam level events

Rising Indian star Prajnesh Gunneswaran has already achieved his short-term goals for the 2019 season.

The 29-year-old main goals for this season were to play a Grand Slam and make a top-100 debut.

Gunneswaran made his Australian Open debut in January after winning three qualifying matches to earn a spot in the main draw.

The Indian, who started the season ranked at No. 110 in the world, broke into the top-100 this past February.

World No. 97 Gunneswaran's fine start to the season continued at the BNP Paribas Open.

The 29-year-old won two qualifying matches to make his main draw debut at the Indian Wells Masters.

The Indian then stunned French Benoit Paire and Nikoloz Basilashvili, before he lost to Ivo Karlovic in the third round.

Gunneswaran, who achieved his career-high ranking of No .94 last month, is now set for a new career-high ranking as he is expected to make the top-85 when the list gets updated after Indian Wells.

The Indian now aims to play regularly at the biggest events.

"When I started the year, I had simple, short-term goals. I wanted to break the top 100 and play a Grand Slam. I've done that already [by competing at the Australian Open]. Now I want to be able to play consistently at the World Tour and Grand Slam level. I need to earn that right but I think it's very possible," Gunneswaran told ESPN.

Gunneswaran will now take a short break before he focuses on making it past the Miami Open qualifying event at the beginning of next week.
