Rafael Nadal playing on tour is really important for Spanish tennis - Diaz

In an interview to Eurosport, the Spain's Tennis Federation chief Miguel Diaz commented on Rafael Nadal's recovery from a knee injury he suffered in Indian Wells. The Spaniard is back to practice on Wednesday in Mallorca ahead of the Monte Carlo Masters that will start in mid April. "We know what he went through, he did not play in Miami and he will focus on the clay-court season and I am sure he will give us many good things not just this year but in the next years too. He will win more Grand Slams, Masters 1000s, in the next two, three four years. Hopefully they are eight or nine! He is caring of the schedule and for us to keep playing is the basics because he is an inspiration in terms of value. Tennis clubs have the highest success ever especially thank to Rafa, who helps our image", said Diaz.

On David Ferrer's last match at the Miami Open, Diaz added: "It's something amazing, a promotion of our sport and an inspiration for all the younger guys. It will not be easy to replace him."

On Eurosport broadcasting eight Challengers, Diaz concluded: "It's a very important day for the Spanish tennis because it allows you to develope our game and for the younger players who switch to professional tennis, through the Challengers that are basically the only events beyond the men's tour that reward ATP points. That's the basic and the future of tennis. We have an amount of players who will be good, maybe not as now with multiple players on the top 10 rankings, but you have a series of very good players in Spain. Alejandro Davinovich was a Wimbledon junior winner, Carlos Tabernes, Jaume Munar, Alvaro Lopez. You have more younger guys like Carlos Alcaraz, all the people who were part of the Davis Cup junior team."
