ATP Budapest - DRAW: Marin Cilic, Borna Coric and Cecchinato are favorites
The third edition of the Gazprom Hungarian Open will take place in Budapest this week and it is a chance for many players to grab the title, with the majority of the tennis elite heading to Barcelona to fight for 500 points. All the players who reached the semi-final 12 months ago are in the draw once again and it should be an exciting battle for the trophy, especially with two Croats from the top-15 entering the draw. Marin Cilic had to ask for a wild card after another early loss in Monte Carlo, struggling to find the form so far in 2019 after a knee injury, playing only five tournaments before Budapest.
Borna Coric was supposed to be the top seed but will kick off the campaign from position two after that Cilic's entrance, hoping for an even better result than in Monte Carlo where Fabio Fognini took him down in the quarters. Cilic will face Pablo Cuevas or a qualifier in the second round, with Bernard Tomic, the last year's semi-finalist Aljaz Bedene, Mikhail Kukushkin and Matteo Berrettini standing as potential rivals in the battle for the semis. Nikoloz Basilashvili and Laslo Djere are the seeds in the second quarter, facing Peter Gojowczyk, Monte Carlo finalist Dusan Lajovic, Mate Valkusz and Ernests Gulbis in what should be an entertaining battle for the place in the semis.
The last year's finalists Marco Cecchinato and John Millman lead the third quarter, facing Attila Balazs, Hubert Hurkacz, Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Damir Dzumhur before the possible quarter-final clash that would determine the third semi-finalist. Borna Coric is the favorite to advance into the last four from the bottom quarter, with Robin Haase, Thomas Fabbiano, Andreas Seppi and Adrian Mannarino as his rivals on the title course.
