Expert names Spanish players who will replace Rafael Nadal
In an interview to Majada Honda Magazin, Carlos Martin, a tennis club expert, commented on the future of Spanish tennis once Rafael Nadal retires from the professional game. "Within the ones we have, you have a rising star that is 16-17 years old, called Carlos Alcaraz, from Murcia and we hope he will be a future tennis star." He also mentioned Marta Soriano and Markus Giersiep. "The girl is a sub 12 Spanish champion and won the Mallorca Master of the Rafa Nadal Tour. We are working with her and we have all the hopes to make her a professional. We have a kid, Markus, champion of the Rafa Nadal Tour last year, he is 13 years old and he won a couple of Tennis Europe International tournaments this year."
Martin also admitted that Madrid hosting the Davis Cup finals in 2019 and 2020 is great news. "For the entire world of tennis, it's great that Madrid can host the Davis Cup for the next two years. We are looking forward to the new format and see how everything develops. This event will allow Madrid to be the tennis capital for the next two years and guarantee that the Masters 1000 in Madrid will be played for the next ten. It's a great thing for tennis and it will be a pleasure to see how big tennis players will perform. Fans are excited. The old Davis Cup format had many good things but it was complicated. We will see how it will go." Nadal is committed to play the Davis Cup for Spain providing he is injury free. The Spaniard has been struggling with injuries on hard courts.
