Roger Federer: 'After Indian Wells I just wanted to play a good tennis'

In an interview to ESPN Roger Federer commented on his fourth Miami Open title that he won defeating John Isner in a straight-set final. Between Dubai, Indian Wells and Miami the Swiss played 17 matches overall. He lost to Dominic Thiem in the BNP Paribas Open championship clash. Speaking of his win in Florida, Federer said: "It was great, fantastic. Did not really want to think too much about it until it really happened, especially what happened in Indian Wells, I was just like, Keep playing good tennis, keep staying in the lead and then somehow at some point you can enjoy if you win it but I did not want to think too far ahead how it would feel, what I would say, all these things for some reason today I was able to push him on the side."

Federer broke Isner on the first game of the match, which may not have happened by chance as the Swiss wanted the American to serve first and maybe surprise him. "I won the toss and that was I looked, the sun was still creeping in and I was like, You do the first. But honestly, with so much shade I do not think it matters that much and the wind was not a factor either. I just felt like I was really playing with a plan today, everything I wanted to do worked really well, he was not able to play his kind of style from the baseline, I was consistent, I did not feel like I was in panic and I got off good starts on my own service games and then on the return honestly I was really able to either read sometimes his serve and sometimes pick the right sides at the right times. I just felt I had a really good feeling out there today but a lapse of concentration maybe can cost the game."
