ATP Rankings: Djokovic, Nadal and Federer lead unchanged top-10 group

The updated ATP rankings list has brought nothing new at the top ahead of Roland Garros, with no changes in the top-10 before the quest for 2000 points in Paris. Novak Djokovic is safe to remain on the ATP throne for at least a couple of weeks more, spending the 253rd week as the world no. 1 and moving closer to the players ahead of him. Rafael Nadal has to defend 2000 points at Roland Garros to avoid even further deficit to Novak who lost in the quarters a year ago, with both players making a winning start before the potential final encounter that should be one of the clashes of the season.

Just like in good old times from 12 years and onwards, Roger Federer completes the top-3 group, playing in Paris for the first time in four years and seeking fresh points that would keep him ahead of young guns Stefanos Tsitsipas and Alexander Zverev. Dominic Thiem was the finalist a year ago, hoping for a similar outcome next week as well following the first round win over Tommy Paul. Alexander Zverev was in action last week, battling past four matches to claim the title in Geneva and earn 250 points, lifting the first crown since ATP Finals in November.

Alexander barely survived the first round meeting with John Millman and the pressure will be on him in the next matches as well, competing in only one Grand Slam quarter-final before, here in Paris last year. World no. 6 Stefanos Tsitsipas is waiting for the Austrian and the German to make an error and pass both on the list, looking to crack the top-4 or top-5 for the first time in a career with a deep run at Roland Garros. Kei Nishikori and Juan Martin del Potro have made the winning start as well while the remaining top-10 players Kevin Anderson and John Isner had to skip the second Grand Slam of the season due to injuries.

Milos Raonic had to withdraw as well and we have two top-20 stars who are already out of Paris, with Daniil Medvedev and Marco Cecchinato losing in the opening round. Lyon finalist Felix-Auger Aliassime has become the Canadian no. 2 after reaching the final in Lyon, beaten by Benoit Paire who is back inside the top-40 for the first time since October 2017. Geneva finalist Nicolas Jarry gained 17 places for the mover of the week award, finding a place in the top-60 once again.
