Eugenie Bouchard: 'I did not miss travels during my break from the tour'
Eugenie Bouchard is back to compete after being absent from the professional tour for nearly two months. In a press conference at the French Open, the Canadian player was asked what was the thing that she missed the most and the thing that she did not miss the most during her break. "Just performing in front of a crowd. At the end of the day, we're entertainment, you know. So seeing all the people out there and hearing a lot of them cheer for me is something that you can't get anywhere else in life. I would say the toughest part that we do is travel. So I was injured, but I was happy to be in one place for a little bit longer than normal."
Asked how she would explain the secret sauce of Canada's fabulous success of late, Bouchard replied: "Yeah, I mean, I think tennis in Canada has been really good for a while now. It's been like five years or more. So I think the young ones get inspired by seeing the older ones doing well, and it's this continuous cycle. So hopefully it will continue this way for as long as possible."
Bouchard, who lost to Lesia Tsurenko 6-2 6-2 in the first round, also admitted she has a lot of room for improvements: "I think my serve let me down today. I haven't served in a long time. So I feel like I don't have the consistency on my serve. And I was a little bit scared to go for it because of this injury I've had. And I felt it a bit more in the second set, so it's just something to keep working on. So that's the main thing, I think."
