Fognini: 'Rafael Nadal is the strongest on clay. Djokovic and Federer...'
In an interview to Il Corriere dello Sport, Fabio Fognini gave his French Open predictions. "When Djokovic is going through a good time he is the toughest one, he showed it on hard as Roger Federer did on the grass. But on clay Nadal is the strongest and his win in Rome did not surprise me. Unless he is dealing with an injury, he is the best", said the Italian.
Fognini just achieved his career-high ranking at No. 11 and he hopes to go far in Paris. On possibly breaking the top ten, he added: "I think about it but I do not imagine it as a goal but as a dream that can be accomplished. I am coming from a very good time and I will try to give my best, but I want to be feet grounded. I know well that good results depend on many factors and not just by me. This time anything can happen, but I want to play my first match at my best, which is the most important thing. From the Monte Carlo final, I have been dealing with a leg injury. Some days it goes better, some days it goes worse. In Paris, you play best of five sets matches and I am confident I can play at my best. Lately, I have withdrawn from several tournaments but I am training a lot, even seven hours a day with Italy's Davis Cup captain Corrado Barazzutti."
Fognini has skipped Barcelona, Estoril and Geneva. He will start his run in Paris against his compatriot Andreas Seppi.
