Sam Querrey withdraws late from French Open, Henri Laaksonen set for debut

American tennis star Sam Querrey won't be returning to competitive action at the French Open as he has withdrawn late from the second Grand Slam event of the season due to an abdominal issue. 

The 31-year-old hasn't played since Houston, where he made the semi-final before losing to Chile's Christian Garin. 

The American, who debuted at the French Open in 2007, will have his magnificent series of 12 consecutive appearances at Roland Garros ended. 

Despite many appearances at the French Open, former world No. 11 Querrey has never made a deep run at the tournament as he only once reached the third round. 

Querrey, now ranked at No. 62 in the world, was drawn to face rising Spanish star Pedro Martinez in the French Open first round. 

Instead, Martinez will be facing lucky loser Henri Laaksonen, who is set to make his main draw debut on the clay of Roland Garros. 

Laaksonen, 27, fell just short of earning a main draw place through the qualifying event as he was beaten by Swede Mikael Ymer in the final round after a three-set battle. 

Meanwhile, 2017 Wimbledon semi-finalist Querrey will now focus on getting ready and prepared for the upcoming grass season.
