French Open fun May 26th: Tsitsipas, Federer, Andreescu, more
One could think there is already enough said with match reports during the first round of a Grand Slam. However, tournaments with a calibre such as the French Open’s display much more than just on-court results. Crack-up moment, surprising facts, fans shenanigans, here is a recollection of the best May 26th moments at the 2019 Tournament of the Musketeers.
1- Tsitsipas vs. camera signing: 0-1 (or 0-0?)
Stefanos Tsitsipas secured his pass to the second round with a straight 6-2 6-2 7-6(4) win over German Maximilian Marterer; he will next meet Hugo Dellien. At the end of the match, as wanted by the tradition, the Greek was asked to leave his autograph on one of the cameras filming him. Just too happy, Tsitsipas grabbed the marker, started signing- and caused the camera lense to fall. Hard to know if this was the funny part, or the face he made afterwards.

. 2- You don’t need any accreditation to step on the court…
… If your name is Natanel Mahut. After a five set win—recovered from two sets down—against last year’s semifinalist Marco Cecchinato, Nicolas Mahut decided to celebrate on the red dirt in company of his son, who by the way wears his glasses in a very adorable fashion. It is not the first time that Mahut Jr. walks with his father on the magical courts of the French Open to honor a victory. When the 37-years-old was crowned doubles champion last year with countryman Pierre-Hugues Herbert, Natanel had participated to the live party.
3- How do you dare?
When Oscar Otte threw his towel toward a child who came to congratulate him for his first round win, the German certainly hadn’t imagined that the kid would never get the precious token. In fact, it was ripped—literally torn away from the child’s hands—by an adult fan with a serious lack of manners. Maybe, this very unkind man is somehow related to the Iowa baseball fan who snatched a foul ball from a kid… on the very same day.

. 4- Canadian players feel the finals vibes.
“Waking up to a win>>>> Wow wow wow. Lets keep the dream alive, Raptors.”
Bianca Andreescu’s twitter was not the only one sending love toward Toronto’s basketball team all the way from Paris. Denis Shapovalov also seemed pretty thrilled by the news of his favorite team making it to the finals, and Felix Auger Aliassime was a bit cheered up despite his withdrawal from the Tournament of the Musketeers.
“There is also other things than tennis, and this is one of the good things,” said the 18-years-old Canadian.
