Karen Khachanov Would Be Delighted if He Could Win Wimbledon

Tennis - 23-year-old Russian Karen Khachanov says he would be delighted to win Wimbledon if he has the chance as it is one of the biggest tournaments on the tennis calendar. In an interview published by Sky Sport Italy, Khachanov says, "If I have the chance to win it, I will be very happy. It is not easy to adapt because in a year we only play on the grass for 4 weeks. To be able to finish that tournament well you must be in very good condition. For me, each of the Slams is really important. Wimbledon is a bit of the history of tennis, everyone knows it, even those who do not follow tennis and are not fans, so Wimbledon is, without doubt, one of the best tournaments. If I have the possibility to win it, I will be delighted. For me it is one of the most prestigious and historic tournaments there is, we know it is a tradition to play on the grass, even if it is not easy to adapt because there are not many tournaments on the grass."

Khachanov reached the fourth round at Wimbledon last year where he lost to World No. 1 Novak Djokovic but says it was a positive experience. "In general, throughout the year, we only play on the grass for 4 weeks. Therefore, to be able to finish well with Wimbledon you must be in very good condition. Last year with Novak, I remember perfectly well that he was starting to find the perfect game rhythm at that time and it was really hard for me. I didn't even have many opportunities because he played really well. The conditions influenced me, I remember that there was a lot of wind and I lost my serve like 6 times. I don't remember many matches on grass where I lost my service so many times. So it was a pretty difficult match, but at the same time it was a good experience. I reached the fourth round in the tournament for the third time in a slam, so it was undoubtedly positive ".

Khachanov says he is also happy to have the chance to compete with the legends of the game such as Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic. "Playing with champions of this caliber can only be an inspiration. When I was young, I always watched their games, their finals in big tournaments. On the one hand, I'm happy to be able to compete at their level. For me, it's the best feeling when you grow up watching the best champions of our sport and then, growing and improving yourself, you reach a level that allows you to challenge them in the big tournaments of the circuit. This is what I wanted to do. I trained to reach it. On the other hand, there may be better opportunities in some tournaments without them. But of course at some point, this moment will come, unfortunately for everyone. But I think the thing is positive and I'm really happy to meet them in the various tournaments. My goal will certainly be to try to beat them ".

In his first tournament on grass this season, Khachanov was beaten by Italian Matteo Berrettini in the round of 16 at Stuttgart and in the quarter-finals at Halle.
