Nick Kyrgios' season not done yet, will play Davis Cup

Australia, the team holding the second-highest number of Davis Cup titles in history, is taking the tournament in a very serious way like they have always done. The Australian tennis federation had spoken with the Madrid finals' organizers a few more hours before making their nominees official.

Finally, after a bit of suspense, the captain Lleyton Hewitt chose Alex de Miñaur, Nick Kyrgios, John Millman, Jordan Thompson and John Peers. Kyrgios has not been competing in an official match since the Zhuhai Championship due to a shoulder injury but his season has not ended yet and after withdrawing from Vienna and Paris tournaments, he will try to play Davis Cup against Colombia and Belgium. Kyrgios has been involved in plenty of controversies over the last months and he is on probation.

One of the players Kyrgios criticized the most was Rafael Nadal. "Rafa gets angry when I win," he said. He did not have some nice words for Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer either.

We’ve got three really good youngsters, 21, 22 and under, sort of inside that Top 40-45 in the world, and certainly, they’re the future for us. We want to keep them involved and have them definitely a part of the team. They’re not only our best players, but they’re also our future, so it’s nice to have their support and for them to be fully on board, fully engaged with wanting to be a part of it. We have got a really versatile team, as well. We’ve got guys that can do both pretty successfully—both being singles and doubles—so we’ve got a really deep team. We have a lot of great options to throw out there."
