Sabalenka: 'In the past I was watching more Serena Williams than Sharapova'

Aryna Sabalenka spoke about her childhood idols. The Belarusian said: "Actually when I was growing up I was watching more Serena Williams's matches and also Maria Sharapova. But my impression, because she won the four Grand Slams in one year, right? She was a great player and I would like to say like nobody could beat her and she was the toughest one. And I just like the style of her game, it was like mine on the court. I don't think so that I would really be happy to play against her (laughing)."

On the reasons why she drew a tattoo featuring a tiger Sabalenka said: "I think I'm going to answer on this questions like every tournament, but, okay, I got it when I was 18 or 19, I think 18, and it's tiger because I was born in the year of the Tiger. And that was the first one and the last one, I don't want to make another one. I hope I'll not do it (laughing)."

On her next opponent Elise Mertens, Sabalenka said: "She's a really consistent player and I think she's moving well. I just remember I played against her a couple of times and it was really tough matches. And I'm just ready for it, and it's going to be a big challenge, but I'm ready for it. Of course there are some lessons from last year and hopefully this year I will do better. I'll just go out there and fight and also focus on each point and just try to think only about tennis."
