'I like Novak Djokovic but I always want Rafael Nadal to win' Junior player

In an interview to Marca, Andres Gimeno spoke about how he started playing tennis. "What I really played to is football. That was my sport as a kid. But in my winter apartment, which is next to the beach, I started playing tennis. I started playing tournaments out of Valencia and that's where I started achieving my potential", said Gimeno, who before competing in this year's Wimbledon had never played on a grass tennis court.

On his favourite surface, Gimeno added: "It's hard court. You try to be aggressive and dominate on serve. I trained for my entire life on clay but I struggle less playing on hard."

Asked if he hit with professional players, Gimeno replied: "Yes. I trained with David Ferrer. The other day in Wimbledon I trained with Roberto Bautista Agut. But especially with David because I am in his Academy and I train a lot with him. He places the ball where he wants to."

On his childhood idols, he concluded: "I always looked at Rafael Nadal and David Ferrer, among the Spaniards. And Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic for abroad players. I like Djokovic but I always want Nadal to win." Asked what he likes the most about Nadal, Gimeno concluded: "The way he fights. He is at another level for what he achieved and for what he is yet to achieve."
