John McEnroe Looking to Recruit for his Academy in Harlem

Tennis - Tennis legend John McEnroe is looking for children for his tennis camp in Harlem where dozens of children tried out for a chance to be in his academy on Wednesday. More than 60 athletes were at the Frederick Johnson playground tennis courts in Harlem for an opportunity to get a scholarship at the John McEnroe Tennis Academy.

The John McEnroe Tennis Academy has attracted many top players since launching more than a decade ago.

McEnroe says he would like to get as many kids as possible to train at his academy. "The goal is to get as many kids who can’t afford this great sport and opportunity to change their lives. One of the young kids at the tennis camp, 9-year-old Ava Brewer says being at the camp and working at the academy is helping her lay the groundwork for a future career of her own. "I want to win a lot of grand slams and I want to be one of the best."

Another young talent, Joshua Bey, says training at the academy has made him a lot better.  "It made me a lot better and it’s free."
