Alexander Zverev signs up to play Beijing

German tennis star Alexander Zverev has signed up to play the China Open as he is set to make his fourth consecutive main draw appearance in Beijing, per Michal Samulski.

Zverev has been a regular participant of the China Open since the beginning of his career as he tried to make the Beijing main draw as a teenager in 2015 but then the 18-year-old lost in the qualifying first round to fellow compatriot Michael Berrer.

However, the German made his Beijing main draw debut a year later -- when he picked up two notable wins over world No. 4 Dominic Thiem and American Jack Sock respectively -- before losing to Spain's David Ferrer in the quarterfinal.

Zverev, ranked at No. 6 in the world, went a step further a year later as he made the semifinal before losing in straight sets to eventual runner-up Nick Kyrgios.

11-time ATP champion Zverev disappointed at the China Open last year as his campaign came to an end in the round-of-16 following a shock loss suffered to world No. 99 Malek Jaziri.

Zverev won't have an easy job of wining it all in Beijing from September 30 - October 06 as Thiem, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Andy Murray, Daniil Medvedev, Karen Khachanov, Roberto Bautista Agut and Felix Auger-Aliassime are also expected to play at the event.
