Rafael Nadal is not happy with his popularity, says Ferrero
In an interview, the former world No. 1 Juan Carlos Ferrero was asked what was his best career match win. The Spaniard did not hesitate when it was the time to answer. "The 2003 US Open semifinals, when I became world No. 1. I was playing against Andre Agassi who was the number one back in the day. A very few times you have the chance to fight in a head to head match for the No. 1 rankings spot. Also, it was in the United States and in a Grand Slam. It was a match with a lot of emotions and it was very hard. I eventually won the match in the fourth set and conquered the No. 1 that I had sought for a while", said Ferrero.
Asked how his popularity increased, Ferrero said: "It was a very brutal change, all the world looking at you, people asking for a photo, you cannot do anything. That influences, you have to deal with it. In the end, you get used to it, you have no other solution. When you get the achievement you want, of course, there is a consequence. I do not think Rafa Nadal is happy with the popularity he has."
Ferrero has a close relationship with Valencia: "Totally. People appreciated me and when we will not have a Valencia native, or two, on the top 25 rankings we will realize what he had. Every time I go to Valencia people treat me in an amazing way and they show me a lot of support."
