Simona Halep in danger of missing Cincinnati due to foot injury

Simona accused Achilles heel discomfort along with lower left leg ‘pain’ in her Toronto run that saw her stop in the quarterfinals. There, she lost the first set against the tournament’s dark horse - Marie Bouzkova -, before throwing the towel.

"Today I felt it more, so that's why I decided to retire", Halep told WTA Tennis.

Even if she lost the final, the Wimbledon queen proved her mastery on this tournament's court as she flew past Tomljanovic, Barty, Tsurenko and Sabalenka. Halep’s first opponent in this year's Cincinnati will be either Alexandrova or Suarez Navarro, of course, if the injury will let the Romanian participate.

Halep posted on Instagram a photo of her bandaged foot and one where her physiotherapist – Marian Gheba -, was massaging the problematic area.
