Novak Djokovic: I got frustrated a lot of times, I was struggling mentally

Speaking to Tennis Channel, Novak Djokovic commented on how it felt like to have a series of episodes with Jay Shetty earlier this year in Monte Carlo while training and hitting the gym.

Djokovic said: "He is a phenomenal guy, I had a privilege to speak to him, I have tremendous respect for him, he is doing so well, sharing the message and right values to the rest of the world. It was a great opportunity for me to also have more deep discussions inside the world. I do not speak about that too often. I do like the phylosophical mode. It's important that everyone finds the comfort zone and what strength is. It's a very mental sport as much as it is physical and I always tried surrounding myself with the right people and have the motivation to be happy and really accept everything life brings and be joyful. Earlier in my career I was struggling mentally more with maybe some situations on the court but also off the court. I got frustrated a lot of times and I still do but at the end of the day I take responsibility and choices in my life which also makes me better on the court and in my tennis."

Djokovic is the defending champion this week in Cincinnati. The world No. 1 defeated Roger Federer in straight sets in the 2018 final. He is the top seed in the draw and could play Federer in the semi-finals since the third seed has been drawn in the same half like him. Djokovic won two Slams this year: the Australian Open and Wimbledon. He withdrew from the Rogers Cup in Montreal in order to give himself some more time to rest after winning Wimbledon.
