Thanasi Kokkinakis: My body is feeling good, I can't wait to play US Open
Injury-plagued Australian Thanasi Kokkinakis is excited about getting a chance to play at the US Open after having to deal with health issues throughout the year.
World No. 212 Kokkinakis is set to make his third main draw appearance at Flushing Meadows after being granted a wildcard into the last Grand Slam event of the season.
Kokkinakis, a former world No. 69, has had to deal with yet another tough and mentally challenging season as he has played only a total of seven tournaments so far this year.
However, the good and encouraging news is that Kokkinakis is playing at a tournament for the third consecutive week.
"It’s been a difficult six months,” Kokkinakis said, per the AAP.
“After starting the year well in Brisbane and at the Australian Open, it was frustrating to have to take some time out.
“But my body is finally feeling good, I’m wrapped to be back playing and I’m really excited for the opportunity."
Kokkinakis, 23, will be aiming to clinch his maiden US Open win this year as he picked up first round exits at the tournament in 2015 and 2017 respectively.
