Canadian younger guys look at Felix, not Federer or Nadal anymore -Belanger
The National Bank Junior Cup organizer Louis Lemieux spoke about Felix Auger-Aliassime's effect on the popularity of tennis in Quebec. "I met three younger guys who told me their favorite player was Felix. A girl who had never played tennis, saw Felix competing at the Rogers Cup the day before and she decided to give herself a chance to play the sport the day after", said Felix.
The subscriptions to the tournament increased by 50 percent over ten years. "I do not try to develope the next Felix. I take the kid and I bring them to the first step", he added.
Nathan Bélanger spoke about Felix's inspiration: "Before, we were looking at Roger Federer or Rafael Nadal, European players. Now we have Shapovalov, Andreescu and Felix who come from our country. It shows that everything is possible. It's very motivating", recognized the 15-year-old.
Joliane, the 25th best player of Quebec at sub-14 age level, said: "Bianca Andreescu played very well at the US Open earlier this month. She kept believing and she got a huge win which will boost her confidence. I like a lot her personality, which is very inspiring."
Auger-Aliassime spoke about how it felt to see pandas live in Chengdu: “It was good, it was first time here and seeing pandas. I got to see different types as well, even the newborns. Overall, it’s a good day. Definitely a must-see if you’re in the region", concluded the 19-year-old.
