Novak Djokovic to compete again in...
Novak Djokovic is ready to resume competing. The world No. 1, who last stepped on a court to play an official match at the US Open against Stan Wawrinka, has recovered from a left shoulder injury and he is training at full speed in Belgrade with his compatriots Janko Tipsarevic, Filip Krajinovic and Viktor Troicki, who he will play Davis Cup with.
Djokovic will play the Rakuten Open in Tokyo next week, where he will be the only top-ten player competing, and then the Rolex Shanghai Masters. Djokovic has 640 rankings points more than Rafael Nadal, who is instead set to skip Shanghai and compete in Paris again.
Going far in Tokyo can allow Djokovic to remain calmer in Shanghai. He needs to defend 2,600 points until the year ends while Nadal did not earn any point after last year's US Open. After the Asian swing, both Novak and Rafael are set to compete in Paris, ATP Finals and Davis Cup. Djokovic was world No. 1 for 270 weeks in his career and he is trying to reach Roger Federer's 310 weeks.
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga spoke about why he will not compete in Shanghai. "At the start, I was third on the list behind del Potro and then Murray was added. I understand they picked Andy. Since it turned official, I decided not to go to Asia, that's why I committed to the Orleans Challenger. So I am able to play another tournament, train well and then end the season on a good note also because the indoor conditions fit me. I'd better gain confidence and points instead of going to Asia and not getting a lot."
