Feliciano Lopez: 'Daniil Medvedev apologized me in the US Open locker room'
In an interview to Marca Feliciano Lopez recalled his third round match loss to Daniil Medvedev at the US Open. The Spanish player commented on the Russian getting booed by the crowd for putting the finger on his head. "It was a match that, despite the loss, I enjoyed for the great game level. I competed against one of the best players. It's this kind of matches that you want to play and that's why I am still training on a daily basis. What happened on the court was seen by everyone and I think he apologized. First he did it with me in the locker room and then with the crowd. So I do not have anything more to add", said Lopez.
Asked if he was surprised that Medvedev reached the final losing to Rafael Nadal in five sets, Lopez replied: "It was not a surprise. Throughout the year and especially this summer he was the most consistent guy. He showed that he is the most consistent out of the younger guys."
Asked if he will play the ATP Mallorca Open in 2020, Lopez replied: "It's a very good news that there is a new ATP tournament in Spain. For me, being on hard, it's even better. But I do not have a settled calendar. I know that Enric, my agent, spoke with the tournament chiefs and in a short time we will make my schedule for the first half of 2020."
On how it will feel to play the Senior Masters Cup in Marbella, Lopez concluded: "It's a great place and now with my marriage it will have a more special meaning for me and Sandra. I feel like home there. I have close friends and this weekend I will be enjoying again to be on such a great clay court playing with great friends."
