Training with Roger Federer helped me to deal with pressure, says Sinner
In an interview to Gazzetta dello Sport the Italian player Jannik Sinner spoke about how it felt to go through the US Open qualies and lose to the eventual quarter-finalist Stan Wawrinka in the main draw. "From the first ball I tried not to feel pressure", said Sinner. "Training with Roger Federer in Italy helped me. The intensity is different from that match but you start getting used to that environment. I feel some responsability but I do not have to get distracted. So I think about Nadal who was already an amazing player at 18".
On his passions, Sinner added: "I like ski and I still follow it. I also like the NBA while I do not know anything about football."
What does Jannik do off the court? "Prior to the US Open I came back home and I walked in the mountain with friends. I watch some films on Netflix."
Who has his childhood idol? "Federer. Then coming from the same place as Seppi, it was Andreas. I once saw him playing a tournament live and I said I would have liked to play there too. Now I would like to play a Grand Slam final. Maybe at the US Open. I started the season on a bad note, I struggled because Lorenzo Musetti and Giulio Zeppieri were having some deep runs at the Australian Open and I thought my choice not to play junior events was wrong. Then I won the Bergamo Challenger and everything changed."
