Casper Ruud: 'I was totally exhausted after training with Rafael Nadal'

In an interview to Tennis Portalen Casper Ruud spoke about how it feels like to practice at the Rafa Nadal Academy. The Norwegian player said: "You train a bit differently there. The intensity is extremely high. It's not just about the one-two punch but six-seven shots at a very high intensity and then boom. It looks like this when I train with Rafa. I trained with him before the 2019 season and I came home totally exhausted. Many things improved on my game and my intensity improved quite a lot."

Asked if he would like to face Nadal in a competitive match, Ruud replied: "I do not know if I have such a desire of playing like Nadal as it looks like extremely tired for the body. If I was able to choose alone, I would have probably played like Federer. You take different things from players that you think are good and you test yourself. It's about mixing up a bit. I tried to copy Nadal's intensity. Points end pretty quickly with him, six-seven shots and so the intensity becomes even more important. He watches tournaments and he sometimes congratulates me for the best result. I do the same thing too. I would like to think that he hopes that the Academy players go well so that the Academy enjoys a good promotion."
