Monte Carlo Masters to have top field in 2020. But will Roger Federer play?
As always, the Rolex Monte Carlo Masters is the first Masters to be played on clay. In 2020, the event will take place from 11 to 19 April and the Tournament Director Zeljko Franulovic promoted it in Milan, Italy, on Wednesday. Franulovic said: “The quality of players, a record number of spectators and TV viewers have contributed to the success of the past edition. Prince Albert opened the doors to players, who visited the Prince’s Palace in Monaco. Monte Carlo loves tennis and players love this tournament. About 400 journalists from all over the world attended the tournament. Our tournament was broadcast in over 200 countries."
Roger Federer seems unlikely to play as he said he would like to compete in Dubai, Indian Wells and maybe Miami next year and then take a break before having a light schedule on clay heading into the French Open. Federer last played in Monte Carlo in 2016 coming back from a knee injury. Fans can still expect a world-class field. “The 2019 edition of our tournament was highlighted by the triumph of Italian tennis star Fabio Fognini," recognized Franulovic. "Next Gen players, like Stefanos Tsitsipas, Danil Medvedev and 18-year-old Canadian player Felix Auger Aliassime, Alexander Zverev have made their breakthrough this season. In Monte Carlo, Auger Aliassime was beaten by Alexander Zverev. Medvedev reached the semifinal after beating Novak Djokovic."
Monte Carlo is one of the most historical tournaments in the world. It stands out for elegance and class, and all the players always praise this event. Rafael Nadal will try to win his 12th title.
