Novak Djokovic: 'Daniil Medvedev deserves all his success'
In an interview to Eurosport Novak Djokovic was asked to mention the three biggest Russian players on his mind. The Belgrade native replied: "A tough choice. I want to name three guys. Good friends and good players. Safin was one of the guys I was looking up to. We trained a lot together when I was younger. He has always been a role model for me. Davydenko? We often played one another in several tournaments. His speed is crazy, a very few players have his qualities. Finally, Medvedev is one of the players who made amazing progresses, especially this year. I have been knowing him for several years, we train together in Monte Carlo, Caen, Cote de Azur. We see each other often. I respect Medvedev a lot, he works hard and he deserves his success."
On Corentin Moutet, Djokovic concluded: "He's 20 years old. He's definitely one of the Next Gen guys coming up. He didn't have much to lose, obviously, playing in front of his crowd. He's actually a lucky loser in the tournament, and he played already four matches coming into -- or three matches coming into this match today. So he felt okay and he felt like, you know, he can give his best fight. Have crowd support obviously. So he did make a good impression on me. I thought he fought well and it was a fun match. He didn't win the match, but he takes definitely the title of best point of the match, you know, the tweener over my head. Seems like a nice guy. I wish him all the best."
