Alex de Minaur: Jannik Sinner was too good

Rising Australian star Alex de Minaur kept it classy after losing the final at the Next Gen ATP Finals as he admitted that Italy's Jannik Sinner deserved to end on the winning side.

De Minaur, seeded at No. 1, stood no chance against Sinner in the final as the eighth-seeded Italian put up one of his best ever performances to claim a 4-2 4-1 4-2 win. 

The Australian won all three of his Round Robin matches, before he overcame American Frances Tiafoe in four sets to reach the final in Milan. 

"It’s been a great week. Jannik was too good,” de Minaur said after the final, per the ATP website. 

De Minaur made five ATP finals this year and captured titles in Sydney, Atlanta and Zhuhai. 

The Australian, who started the year ranked at No. 31 in the world, is set to end the season inside the top-20 as he is enjoying a career-high ranking of No. 18. 

"I’m happy with my year and looking forward to next year," de Minaur added.
