World No.1 Ashleigh Barty doesn’t only sit on top of the WTA Rankings but also on top of the WTA Prize Money Charts for 2019. The Australian, who still is very much alive in the WTA Finals has surpassed the $10 Mn prize money in 2019, taking it to $10.93 million with a possibility to earn more.
Barty is guaranteed at least $1.45 million this week if she makes the last four in Shenzhen - and could land a $5.98 million in prize money if she manages to win the event. But even if she loses and misses a place in the last 4, the 23-year-old will leave China $890,000 better off.
Take down Kvitova and she’ll top the Red Group and advance to Saturday’s semi- finals. The pair recently played in Beijing with Barty topping the Czech seasoned campaigner “I’ve played Petra a number of times this year. Each match has been exceptionally tough. We’ve kind of split them a little bit,” Barty said. “Conditions are different here. Changes things a little bit.”
“We’ll figure out a way we’ll nullify her strengths and get it back to my patterns as much as we can.”
If she progresses, Barty will play either titleholder defending WTA Finals champion Elina Svitolina, Wimbledon champion Simona Halep or Karolina Pliskova for a spot in the final.
Barty recently secured the much coveted Year End WTA No.1 spot after featuring in her second round robin match loss to Kiki Bertens, making her the first Australian to do so.
