Costa recalls loss to 16-year-old Nadal: 'I thought it was a disaster'
In an interview to Cope the Davis Cup Tournament Director Albert Costa spoke about his feelings ahead of the event that starts on Monday. The former world No. 2 said: "Our team is doing a great job and everything is almost ready. It's a very big world class event and the difference is that players compete for their countries which is something emotional. Hopefully nobody gets hurt at the ATP Finals, that everyone keep being at their best and that this week it will be a show. We are in a consistent contact with Rafael Nadal's team and he is doing well. Players like him, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray attract many people. But you have to respect everyone because they are all great and they will play with an amazing passion."
Spain will face Russia on Tuesday and Croatia on Wednesday. "All the tickets were sold. We will see if Spain goes through the groups stages but we are very happy with how the tickets sale have been. They will always play on the Centre Court. All the fans coming from the 18 countries will come. Many British people will get there, also from South America. We are confident many fans will come."
On his relationship with Gerard Pique: "It's a pleasure to work with him because he is a very creative person. He is very involved and motivated although he has his commitments with football too. He is a bit nervous like everyone but I am convinced the format is great and it will be a success."
Costa also recalled his 2003 Monte Carlo loss to the then 16-year-old Nadal: "I thought that match was a disaster and in the end it did not. You could see he was great."
