Eugenie Bouchard gambles and almost wins big at Vegas
She had mentioned of her love for Las Vegas and would really want to call it her second home. Eugenie Bouchard was feeling rather comfortable there and it helped her produce some great wins in the relaxing environment. The 22-year-old Canadian has in the past been known for her antics on social media more than her tennis performances, but she may be on to good things to come.
The Henderson Tennis Open, a tournament for female players is an outdoor, hard court event in Las Vegas, Nevada. The top prize money is $60,000 comprised around the ITF Women's Circuit, also part of the USTA Pro Circuit. Bouchard just seen it as a way to get her tennis together in the lovely atmosphere and perhaps some wins would come. She decided on playing only doubles and had partnered with FAnni Stollar from Hungary. Stollar had just won a Challenger title in her home country with Spain's Georgina Garcia Perez. She was eager to join Bouchard feeling that their partnership would be a positive experience. The Canadian had gotten her doubles mantra together at the beginning of the season as she paired with Sofia Kenin to win her first doubles crown at the ASB Classic in New Zealand.
The Canadian hasn't had the luck or combination of strategies she'd used to and this season alone she seen a 12-match losing streak ending with the U.S. Open. Flipping the level, she chose to play the ITF Circuit afterwards to develop and tone up her skills for a new season coming. A few months ago, in September she returned to the Centeral Coast Pro Tennis Open of the ITF but bowed at the opening round. Eugenie's last tournament win was in February at Dubai with a ranking now of 220. The Henderson Tennis Open proved to be a refreshing surprise as her and Stollar won their opening round and made it through to the semifinals facing Olga Govortsova and Mandy Minella. The top doubles team played some high quality tennis knocking Bouchard and partner out of the tournament in straight sets of 6-3, 6-3. Despite the lost they both felt accomplished just reaching the semifinals of a tournament especially for Bouchard who hasn't came that close in victories since the beginning of the year winning with Kenin. Stollar was also glad to provide some spark she might have had left from winning her 2nd doubles title of her career in Hungary.
Eugenie Bouchard's life isn't without some temptations as before playing in Vegas, she got an offere to play with the baseballer of the Toronto Blue Jay's Bo Bichette. The player's livelihood may be in the major leagues, but he's always liked and played tennis well. He gave Bouchard a holler asking "When you gonna let me on the court with you??" But Bouchard's been down this road before and had a bit of hesitation. Bichette followed his question up with "SMH, I just wanna play tennis."
Well, not much came of the prepostion but years ago when Eugenie went out on a few dates with a college student o a dare from a football game outcome, this episode turned out well enough. It was afterwards that Fox 2000 productions picked up Jonathan A. Abrams' love-comedy film inspired by Bouchard's winning of a Super Bowl bet. Douglas Banker of Five All in the Fifth Entertainment is producting the project along with State Street Pictures. The movie will be called 'The Hate U Give'. Eugenie is satisfied that something bigger came out of the situation and she will be the executive producer. As for her tennis, she says she'll "take one match at a time" but maybe the Las Vegas event has opened up a whole new world for Bouchard along with more success in the coming tennis season and producing a movie to her surprise and amazement.
