Fans want to see Federer and Nadal more than Djokovic - Caujolle
In an interview with Tennis World USA, Jean-Francois Caujolle commented on Roger Federer withdrawing from the Paris Masters for the third year in the last four years. Caujolle, who was the event's tournament director until 2011, said: "Every tournament director would love to see Federer and so you get frustrated. But it's quite difficult when you have Basel the week before. But if he feels at 100 per cent, he should play. But he can do what he wants, he knows his body very well. You have to appreciate when he competes. It's like a gift. People want to see Roger and Rafa more than Novak, who is still a tremendous player. He has not the same charisma as his other two rivals.
"The tournament is good enough, if you have Federer it's better but the level of tennis is already high overall," he added. "It's a choice he makes. Everybody wants to see Federer but the ATP Cup will not be affected by his withdrawal. You need to respect their decision. They are free to build their schedule. South America doesn't have too many good events and it's a great promotion for the game."
On the power of the Asian tennis, Caujolle concluded: "They will not expand the calendar for the Asian tour. WTA made a mistake in introducing so many tournaments because they preferred money. You can go there for just two, three, four weeks but not more. ATP is always careful about history and marketing and they are making the right move. Tennis has been in Asia for like 15 years but it's not real tennis."
