Paris Masters Tournament Director Guy Forget commented on Novak Djokovic's straight-set final win over Denis Shapovalov on Sunday. Forget said: "I wished Denis Shapovalov could perform as well as he did against Gael Monfils and carry on himself. Despite the excitement and the fire, against a good machine like Djokovic, you cannot hit so many unforced errors. He got a short lesson by Novak on how to handle a final both emotionally and strategy-wise. It's also important for him to face one of the greatest players ever looking ahead to the future, on a fast surface in order to see where he is and what he needs to improve on. He has amazing weapons but he needs to use them in the right moment, being smart. When you make too many errors, you need to have a lower rhythm and he did not manage to achieve it in the final.
"Many people here would have dreamed a final between Nadal and Djokovic, with revenge may be happening a bit later in London where they will fight for the No. 1. But now will the race happen?" the 1991 Paris champion said on Nadal being in doubt for the year-end championship. "We want to see the best players competing on the court. Unfortunately, at the end of the season, Roger rested, Novak is the best player and Rafa is starting to have some signs of tiredness."
Nadal pulled out the tournament before his semi-final against Shapovalov on Saturday with an injury to his abdomen. Djokovic defeated Grigor Dimitrov in the semi-final.
