Jannik Sinner Confident about Reaching the Top

Tennis - Rising Italian tennis star Jannik Sinner says he is confident of becoming the top-ranked player in the world in the future.

Sinner spoke in an interview with Il Giornale, saying, "I am not afraid to expose myself and it is not a presumption. When you have the right people around you know that you can put your character to good use. Mine is to try to get what I want. I know that the potential is there and Riccardo Piatti ( his coach) believes the same. He has seen and trained so many champions. Of course, I have to commit myself to improve."

Sinner has had an outstanding year in 2019 - he reached the semi-finals of the ATP Antwerp event and qualified for the main draw of the US Open - breaking into the Top 100 of the ATP rankings and also qualifying for the ATP NextGen Finals.

Sinner says he is able to learn from his victories and defeats and also knows that his mental strength is his strong point. " In all matches, the head is the only thing you can control. Many times you do not control your shots or the opponent. But the head is always with you. The victories give confidence, when I beat Monfils in Antwerp I understood where I can go. The defeats serve to learn. Among my best matches, I put the loss in four sets against Wawrinka in the first round of the US Open: it was a test to understand at what point I was and I played well ".

Speaking about the expectations and hype around him, Sinner says it does not bother him. " It doesn't weigh on me, I don't read what they say. But I know, I feel it. I must know how to manage it "
