Kiki Bertens Marries Physiotherapist Remko de Rijke

Dutchwoman Kiki Bertens has gotten married this weekend - with physiotherapist Remko de Rijke. 33-year-old Remke is part of Bertens' coaching team and will continue to work with her in 2020. Bertens recently announced that she had split from longtime coach Raemon Sluiter at the end of the 2019 season and is now working with Elise Tamaela as her coach.

Fellow WTA stars sent out congratulatory messages to Bertens over the weekend - including German Julia Goerges, Hungarian Timea Babos, Brit Johanna Konta, Latvia's Anastasija Sevastova, Belgian Elise Mertens, France's Kristina Mladenovic, Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, Russian Daria Gavrilova and Australian Casey Dellacqua.

Bertens ended the season as World No. 9 and won 2 WTA titles in 2019 - the St Petersburg Ladies Trophy and the Premier Mandatory Madrid Open. She peaked at No. 4 in the rankings earlier this year.

Bertens has been in the news recently - first for her split with Sluiter - then for expressing that she was unhappy about being overlooked for being on the shortlist for Dutch Sports Athlete of the Year. She also recently said that she would speak to the Dutch sports officials in the coming days to decide whether she would compete in next year's Olympics or not.

Bertens won two big titles in 2019, at the Premier-level St. Petersburg Ladies Trophy and the Premier Mandatory Madrid Open. The tennis-data site Tennis Abstract rates the former No. 4 as the second-best player on clay, behind only Simona Halep.
